Many people think of safety as rules and procedures. However, a strong workplace safety culture goes beyond written policies. It develops when people recognise risks in their day-to-day work and take the initiative to improve things.<\/p>\n

Guntur Kusuma, our colleague at one of OCS Indonesia\u2019s retail customer warehouses, showed this in practice. After noticing inefficiencies that caused delays and potential safety risks, he took action to improve it.<\/p>\n

His efforts align with this year\u2019s World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2026<\/strong> theme, \u201cEnsuring A Healthy Psychosocial Working Environment for All.<\/strong>\u201d Through a simple but effective change, Guntur helped create a workplace that is safer, more organised, and easier for everyone to work in.<\/p>\n

Looking beyond the job description<\/h3>\n

Guntur works as part of the collecting team at a warehouse that distributes household products. His responsibilities include monitoring incoming and outgoing inventory, checking stock for delivery, and coordinating with other teams to keep distribution running smoothly.<\/p>\n

His role requires accuracy and attention to details. At the same time, he is known for adapting quickly, working well with others, and being open to new challenges.<\/p>\n <\/section>\n\n\n

This mindset led him to look beyond his daily tasks. He began exploring solutions after noticing that the motorcycle parking process was taking down access at the entrance.<\/p>\n

Improving efficiency and reducing risk<\/h3>\n

At the time, security teams still carrying out manual checks in a parking area used by more than 1,000 workers each day.<\/p>\n

Manual document checks also introduced risks. Employees had to present physical vehicle documents daily, which could be misplaced, incomplete or lost. Instead of suggesting a complex system, Guntur proposed a practical solution by integrating vehicle records into employees\u2019 existing ID cards.<\/p>\n <\/section>\n\n\n

Each ID card barcode now stores vehicle registration details, supporting documents and photos. Security teams can simply scan the barcode to verify whether a vehicle meets entry requirements before allowing access.<\/p>\n

The registration process also includes inspections to ensure safety standards are met. These checks cover tyre condition, lights, horns and mirrors before vehicles are approved for entry.<\/p>\n

The system also improves emergency response, as key vehicle and owner information can be accessed immediately when needed. By addressing a routine issue, Guntur helped reduce potential risks while improving efficiency across the site.<\/p>\n

Building a culture of safety through empowerment<\/h3>\n <\/section>\n\n\n

\n \u201cWe worked closely with the HR and HSE teams to develop this system. Raising awareness about safety can be challenging, but maintaining it is everyone\u2019s responsibility.\u201d <\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/section>\n\n\n

The initiative brought clear improvements. Entry procedures became quicker, queues were reduced, and employees could start work on time without unnecessary delays. Digital records also minimised the risk of lost documents and made verification faster.<\/p>\n <\/section>\n\n\n

Guntur received OCS Indonesia\u2019s TRUE Star <\/strong>programme in the Empowerment<\/em> category for his contribution. The recognition reflects an important value at OCS Indonesia to encouraging people to speak up, take the initiative, and create meaningful improvements in their work.<\/p>\n

For Guntur, the most rewarding part is seeing the positive impact on his colleagues.<\/p>\n <\/section>\n\n\n
