Sunil Parate, Senior Vice President, Aviation, OCS India<\/strong>, has spent 37 years in the sector and has seen expectations widen considerably.<\/p>\n

OCS provides global aviation services to more than 60 airports and airlines across the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and India, supported by over 4,000 aviation colleagues. The value of that spread is not the map. It is the ability to take something proven in one terminal and apply it sensibly in another, thousands of miles away, without losing sight of how that particular airport runs.<\/p>\n

Nowhere is that clearer than in India, where OCS delivers hard services at one of the busiest airports in the country, through every hour of the day.<\/p>\n

Mumbai: Keeping a City-Sized Airport Running<\/strong><\/p>\n

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport is among the busiest in India, and OCS India delivers a full suite of hard services there through every hour of the day, with 800 skilled colleagues on site. The team looks after engineering and facilities services across critical airport systems and infrastructure. Keeping those systems healthy is only half the task. Measuring Performance<\/strong><\/p>\n

How performance is judged has changed. The old measure was how many people were deployed. The measure now is what those people achieve: service levels, asset performance, passenger experience, resilience and operational efficiency. On the scale of Mumbai, meeting those measures calls for specialist skill supported by better information, technology and planning.<\/p>\n

Planned works and critical maintenance are threaded carefully around the live operation, so travellers notice nothing. Preventative maintenance, real-time monitoring and clear contingency plans allow teams to catch problems early, before a small fault turns into a wider operational headache. Sunil describes the central difficulty as keeping operations steady in a tightly regulated environment that never closes, where even minor disruption affects passengers, airline schedules, safety, and the airport’s performance.<\/p>\n

That is why trust sits at the centre of the relationship. Critical infrastructure cannot simply be switched off when it needs attention, so teams coordinate closely with airport stakeholders, work inside rigorous safety and compliance processes, and adjust quickly when the day changes shape.<\/p>\n

As operations grow more complex, airports and the organisations supporting them work much more closely together, sharing responsibility for overall performance rather than handing over a list of tasks. Sunil sees the Mumbai contract in exactly those terms, describing the team of 800 trained professionals as “more than a service provider” and instead “a trusted engineering partner ensuring smooth operations”, in a setting where the stakes are high and the clock never stops. Across the wider region, specialists in mobilisation, ESG, QSHE and innovation strengthen that operational experience, so good practice moves between countries while delivery stays rooted in the needs of each airport. Global aviation services and experience become local expertise.<\/p>\n

Far More Than Cleaning<\/strong><\/p>\n

Most aviation work happens well before anyone reaches a gate. Across OCS, global aviation services include passenger support, terminal and specialist cleaning, cabin appearance, laundry, security screening, hold baggage screening, and the operational services that keep a terminal functioning hour by hour.<\/p>\n

“What surprises people is the span of what we do. The assumption is that we just clean, and it couldn’t be further from the truth. We run several very diverse services: assisting passengers with reduced mobility, terminal cleaning, cabin appearance for Virgin Atlantic, and a major laundry operation at Heathrow that supplies leading airlines.”<\/em> – Richard Marshall, Sector Managing Director for Transport, OCS UK&I<\/strong><\/p>\n

In India, Australia and New Zealand the work reaches deeper into the machinery of an airport. Colleagues there look after passenger boarding bridges and baggage handling systems, maintain airfield lighting and airport systems, and deliver mechanical and electrical services across large aviation estates. Working alongside them are teams providing aircraft cleaning, ground handling support, ramp services and queue management.<\/p>\n

No two markets ask for the same mix, and that variation is a strength, not a complication. Systems, methods and know-how can travel between countries, while what happens on any given shift stays shaped by the airport and the people passing through it.<\/p>\n

The Part of the Journey Nobody Notices<\/strong><\/p>\n

Travel from Mumbai to Heathrow, or Sydney to Auckland, and almost everything changes. The airports differ, the services differ, the challenges differ. What stays constant is the expertise behind it, carried by people who know their operation intimately and can draw on knowledge built across a global aviation business.<\/p>\n
