During 2023 our branches and national support office hosted opportunities for colleagues to participate in several cultural celebrations, including Matariki, M\u0101ori Language Week and Diwali.<\/p>\n    <\/section>\n\n\n    <section \n        id=\"block_acf-block-66286fc0a448c\" \n        class=\"text-[#475467] prose-h1:font-semibold prose-h1:mb-10 prose-headings:font-medium prose prose-ocs prose-li:pl-0 w-full max-w-none\n        \"\n        style=\"background-color: #FFFFFF;\"\n    >\n        <h3><strong>Matariki: Weaving Traditions<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>During the <strong>Matariki<\/strong> festivities, OCS team membershad the opportunity to learn the art of harakeke tatangi (flax weaving) and came together for a shared lunch featuring traditional M\u0101ori kai including \u2018boil up\u2019 (a hearty broth of meat, bones and greens) and para\u0304oa parai (fried bread).<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Te Wiki o te Reo M\u0101ori: Embracing the M\u0101ori Language<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In honour of <strong>Te Wiki o te Reo M\u0101ori<\/strong> (M\u0101ori Language Week), a variety of resources were shared with our teams across Aotearoa New Zealand to encourage learning and speaking te reo M\u0101ori. We used the occasion, following the launch of Whiri te Tangita, our new cultural capability strategy, to also announce our \u2018Te Ka\u0304kano w\u0101nanga (workshop)\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The w\u0101nanga aimed to introduce and enhance our wider team\u2019s knowledge, confidence and connection with Te Ao M\u0101ori and Te Tiriti principles in our day-to-day mahi (work) and the positive feedback received underscored the w\u0101nanga\u2019s impact.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Diwali: A Festival of Lights<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Diwali<\/strong>, also known as\u00a0Dipawali, took center stage as OCS celebrated the rich cultural heritage of our many Indian colleagues. The festival, India\u2019s biggest and most significant holiday, unfolded with vibrant colors, delectable cuisine, and traditional attire. Team members gathered to learn about the significance of Diwali, savor mouthwatering Indian food, and don traditional clothing.<\/p>\n<p>While small, these celebrations play a crucial role in fostering inclusivity, raising cultural awareness promoting mutual respect, and encouraging engagement.
