As part of OCS\u2019s 125th anniversary, we\u2019re celebrating the colleagues who\u2019ve helped shape our journey \u2014 people like Alison Winter who is celebrating 32 years’ service with OCS.<\/p>\n

When Alison (Ali) walks through the doors of Plant & Food Research in Lincoln (\u014ctautahi Christchurch), it\u2019s not just another day at work \u2013 it\u2019s a continuation of a family legacy that\u2019s spanned more than 75 years.<\/p>\n

Between Ali, her daughter, and her mother, three generations of women from the same family have delivered cleaning services at the same site for decades. Today, Ali is Supervisor, and her daughter is one of the five-person cleaning team she leads. Her mother was also a supervisor there before retiring.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve always taken pride in what we do,\u201d says Ali. \u201cIt\u2019s never just been a job \u2013 this place is part of our wh\u0101nau.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her team is tight-knit and remarkably loyal. \u201cNo one\u2019s going anywhere quickly,\u201d she says. \u201cWe\u2019ve all been here for years \u2013 Warren is our \u2018baby\u2019 at just seven or eight years\u2019 service.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shifts start early \u2013 usually at 1am \u2013 to avoid interfering with sensitive research lab work. It\u2019s hard work on the body, but the team stays because of something more.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not here because of the money,\u201d Ali says. \u201cWe\u2019re here because of the support. OCS backs us 100 per cent \u2013 from getting a soap dispenser replaced within the hour to making us feel genuinely valued.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ali credits her managers, past and present, with creating the conditions for that loyalty to thrive. \u201cI can\u2019t do my job without them. That support lets us look after the customer properly \u2013 and they notice.\u201d<\/p>\n

That mutual respect goes a long way. \u201cThe Plant & Food team invite us to their staff functions, include us in their social club, and even lend us equipment for our kids\u2019 birthday parties. They treat us like part of their family \u2013 and that\u2019s exactly how we feel.\u201d<\/p>\n

When a site-wide power outage threatened critical experiments, it wasn\u2019t the site manager who got the first call \u2013 it was Ali. \u201cThey knew I\u2019d show up. That\u2019s what we do.\u201d<\/p>\n

She says every day is a highlight. \u201cI love my job, and I love who I work for. That\u2019s why I stay.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even her granddaughter is keen to join in. \u201cShe\u2019s nine and already practicing toilet cleaning at home,\u201d Ali laughs. \u201cIt\u2019s definitely in the genes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ali recently received a commemorative award as part of OCS\u2019s 125-year celebrations \u2013 a small gesture to honour decades of dedication, loyalty, and care.<\/p>\n

For Ali, it\u2019s always been about more than just the work. \u201cIt\u2019s that sense of purpose and belonging that\u2019s kept our three generations coming back \u2013 and it\u2019s what continues to shape OCS after 125 years.\u201d<\/p>\n <\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
