At Massey University in Palmerston North, Specialist Cleaner Andrew Brown is known for more than his spotless floors \u2014 he\u2019s known for the pride he takes in every job. His colleagues and customers see it too: Andrew has achieved every OCS TRUE Star \u2014 in fact, six of them in total \u2014 for Trust, Respect, Unity and Empowerment.<\/p>\n

Originally employed as a flooring specialist, Andrew\u2019s role has evolved over the years to include window cleaning, carpet cleaning, and even single-level building washes. Whether it\u2019s resurfacing laboratory floors or preparing new buildings after construction, he approaches each task with passion, quiet determination and care.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s about pride,\u201d says Andrew. \u201cYou go into a space that\u2019s tired and marked, and when you\u2019ve finished, it looks beautiful again. You can see the difference your work makes \u2014 and that\u2019s a great feeling.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s this pride that earned him the nickname Super Duper Cleaning Guy<\/em> \u2014 a title first given by a Massey staff member after seeing his three-day effort to restore a grease-stained floor in the university\u2019s Food Lab. Armed with a steamer and persistence, Andrew brought the once-blackened surface back to its original yellow sheen. Months later, the same team were still asking for \u201cthe Super Duper Cleaning Guy\u201d by name.<\/p>\n

\u201cAndrew\u2019s work speaks for itself,\u201d says Donna Marshall, Area Manager \u2013 Manawat\u016b. \u201cHe treats his work environment with respect, follows our processes, and puts in the effort needed to get things right. Whether it was the tough window work or taking on extra jobs when the branch was stretched, Andrew steps up without hesitation.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s also generous with his knowledge \u2014 training others in flooring and specialist work with real enthusiasm. Andrew brings our TRUE values to life every day.\u201d<\/p>\n

After nearly five years with OCS, Andrew shows what it means to live our TRUE values every day. He takes time to do the job right, mentors casual team members, and never loses sight of the value of good work. He\u2019s also humble about recognition \u2014 to him, the TRUE Stars are simply a reflection of how OCS colleagues look out for one another.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven just someone saying, \u2018Thanks, that looks great,\u2019 means a lot,\u201d he says. \u201cIt\u2019s about being appreciated for what you do \u2014 and appreciating others, too.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Andrew, no two days are the same. From specialist cleaning across Massey\u2019s sprawling campus to readying rooms for visiting sports teams, he finds satisfaction in seeing the results \u2014 clean spaces that make others\u2019 days easier.<\/p>\n

Katene McManus, Facilities Coordinator at Massey University, praised Andrew for always delivering services to a high standard.<\/p>\n

“Andrew can be entrusted at a moment\u2019s notice to deliver beyond the expected standard of a job, is punctual and always communicates in a clear and concise manner. The way in which he lives the values of OCS, especially Trust and Respect, are key to his success, building and maintaining strong relationships with team members and campus stakeholders.”<\/p>\n

Andrew believes cleaning offers far more variety and purpose than many people realise.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not the same every day \u2014 that\u2019s what I like about it,\u201d he says. \u201cYou\u2019ve got to hold yourself to a high standard, because the work you do matters. If you put in the effort, people notice. You can build a career here if you really want to.\u201d<\/p>\n
