We <\/span>actively support young people into work and <\/span>showcase<\/span>\u00a0exciting career opportunities within the facilities management industry. As part of this commitment, our OCS Education Sector \u2018Academy\u2019 at North Shropshire College<\/a> recently welcomed two first-year catering students, <\/span>Zoe<\/span> and Gabby, for a hands-on work experience placement in OCS’s catering division.<\/span><\/span>
<\/span><\/p>\n

Hands-On Learning<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n

Over two days at the Walford Campus, Zoe and Gabby participated in a range of activities, gaining real-world experience in stock and delivery management, food and menu preparation, counter service, health and safety management, and kitchen operations. They also shadowed Estate Chef Manager, Francesca Gilmore, learning back-of-house tasks like income administration, product ordering and menu planning.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>

Francesca highlighted the importance of these opportunities, saying:<\/span><\/span>
<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis two-day experience gave both students a real snapshot of a typical working day in the further education catering sector. It provided them with valuable insights into an alternative catering career and could serve as a stepping stone toward an apprenticeship and a long-term career in our industry.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

For Zoe and Gabby, the experience was both insightful and inspiring:<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Zoe: \u201cThe placement was very welcoming, and I received outstanding support and guidance. I took on a variety of tasks and learned how to communicate with different people, which really helped boost my confidence.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Gabby: \u201cI LOVED IT! This experience confirmed my passion for catering as a career. I enjoyed the variety of tasks and working with such a friendly, helpful, and supportive team.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n <\/section>\n\n\n
