Why Regenerative FM offers a stronger operating model for Indonesia’s next phase of growth
By Yohanes Jeffry Johary, President & Managing Director, OCS Indonesia
Indonesia is entering a defining period of growth. Across the country, organisations are investing in new manufacturing facilities, expanding logistics networks, developing industrial estates, modernising healthcare infrastructure and accelerating digital transformation. The rapid growth of the data centre sector is creating new demands for operational resilience, energy management and specialist engineering capability, while businesses across industries are managing increasingly complex workplace environments.
Yet, growth does not end when a facility is completed or an asset becomes operational. In many ways, that is where the greater challenge begins. Organisations must ensure that workplaces continue to perform safely, reliably and responsibly throughout their lifecycle. Assets must remain productive, people need the right capability and working conditions, communities should benefit from development, and environmental pressures must be managed alongside business objectives.
These realities are prompting many organisations to reconsider the role of facilities management. Traditionally viewed as a support function focused on maintenance, compliance and service delivery, facilities management is increasingly being recognised as a strategic contributor to organisational performance. This is where Regenerative Facility Management, or Regenerative FM, becomes relevant.
Regenerative FM is not simply a different way of delivering facilities services. It is a different way of understanding the relationship between workplaces and the systems around them. Rather than viewing facilities as isolated assets, it recognises that long-term performance is influenced by the interaction between people, workplaces, communities and the environment. When these systems are strengthened together, organisations are better positioned to build resilience, improve performance and create sustainable value over time.
