Building Inclusive Workplace at OCS Indonesia: Starting Small Together with Steps

At the Steps HR Inclusion Tour Jakarta, held in collaboration with ERIA and OCS Indonesia, on Friday, June 20, we were excited to gather with dozens of HR professionals and members of inclusive communities to learn about and discuss the current state of workplace inclusion. The event created space to exchange perspectives, reflect on existing practices, and share experiences on how to build inclusive organisational cultures.

Our Managing Director Yohanes Jeffry Johary, as part of the panel discussion, emphasised how embracing an inclusive workplace goes beyond corporate social responsibility – it requires genuine respect and understanding.

“Hiring people who are disabled or neurodivergent should not be simply a symbolic act to rebrand a company as inclusive. Business leaders must recognise and understand the unique strengths of people who are neurodivergent, including their exceptional focus, diverse cognitive patterns, creativity, and innovative problem-solving.”

“We must not view employing them as a risk, but rather we must recognise they can deliver excellent operational performance with higher quality,” Jeffry added.

As a leading facilities management provider, OCS Indonesia is committed to embedding sustainability at every level, including driving social impact through greater mobility and equity in the workforce. Our journey ahead to an inclusive workplace is still long, and we are now taking the first step, starting small together with Steps.

The event continued with a half-day workshop designed to deepen understanding and encourage active participation. This was followed by a presentation from Steps’ Founder & CEO @Max Simpson and his team, where they shared insights into inclusive employment models and actionable strategies. The session concluded with small-group discussions where attendees reflected on what they had learned and explored how to implement inclusive practices within their own organisations.

Thank you to everyone who took part in the discussion and learning experience. Together, let’s open the door and embrace the opportunity for a more inclusive future.
