Leader of The Year: Kurniawan’s Journey in Fostering Trust & Performance

At the 2026 Annual Meeting, OCS Indonesia recognised Kurniawan Prabowo as Leader of The Year. As Key Account Lead, he was selected among dozens of managers across organisations for his outstanding contribution to the business, his team, and our customers.

However, for Kurniawan leadership is not measured by awards or job titles. He believes a leader’s success is reflected in how many people they help grow, develop, and move forward in their careers.

Since joining OCS Indonesia in early 2023, Kurniawan has shown that business performance is strongest when it is built on trust, collaboration, and the growth of people. We spoke with him about his leadership journey and what leadership truly means to him.

From engineering to human leadership

As a mechanical engineering graduate, Kurniawan began his career in the engineering field before moving into the facilities management industry more than a decade ago. Drawing on his technical expertise in mechanical system and engineering services, he progressed into leadership roles and now oversees strategic accounts across the automotive manufacturing, data centre, and energy & resources sectors.

While his engineering background helps him understand the operational and technical aspects of the business, Kurniawan sees leadership as ultimately being about people.

In his view, empathy and communication are essential qualities for any leader. Empathy starts with listening, understanding the challenges, and creating an environment where people feel comfortable raising concerns and discussing issues openly.

“When people are afraid to raise an issue, it usually means a problem is being hidden and could become a bigger issue later. Team members should always speak up and escalate matters when they cannot resolve them on their own.”

By understanding each individual, leaders can adapt their communication style and provide the right support for different situations. This becomes even more important when leading large teams in dynamic working environments.

Kurniawan also thinks that formal settings are not the only places where learning occurs. Team meetings, phone conversations, and even casual discussions over a meal can be a great way to share experiences, solve problems, and help people develop their capabilities.

Building trust through listening

Listening is not only important in leading the teams. It is essential for establishing relationships and trust with customers.

Through open communication and willingness to understand customer needs, teams can identify opportunities for improvement, address contractual gaps, and develop solutions that create added value. This approach helps strengthen customer trust and continuously improve services to meet changing business needs.

Kurniawan encourages his frontline colleagues to adopt the same mindset. He believes everyone plays a role in delivering a positive customer experience and supporting business growth. When services are delivered consistently and effectively, opportunities for both individual and organisations growth will follow.

Empowering team to succeed and grow

Leader of The Year is not his first recognition. In 2024, Kurniawan earned both TRUE Star of The Year dan Best Topline Growth, reflecting his consistent contribution to business performance and leadership.

Yet when asked about his proudest achievement, he does not point to awards. For Kurniawan, his greatest success comes from seeing people around him grow and reach their full potential.

“These achievements would not have been possible without the support of my team. Everyone has played an important role in our success.”

Under his leadership, several team members have progressed from operational roles into more strategic positions with some advancing all the way to Key Account Manager roles.

“I hope team members have the opportunity to keep moving forward, develop their capabilities, and achieve levels that allow them to reach their personal and professional goals.”

He also encourages colleagues to keep learning and remain open to new ideas and industry developments. Because continuous learning is one of the most important qualities of a future leader.

His commitment to help others succeed continues to shape his approach to leadership. It also reflects the principles of Regenerative FM, where leadership is not only about delivering results today, but about creating the conditions that enable people, teams, and business to thrive over the long term.

Leadership is not about standing at the front. For Kurniawan, it’s about helping others move forward, whether supporting frontline colleagues, developing future leaders or strengthening customer partnerships. It is this commitment to people, trust, and continuous growth that makes his leadership truly inspiring.
