Learning Beyond Limits: How Andik’s Passion Creates Lasting Value for Customers

Learning has no limits because it is not defined by place, time or age. People can discover better ways of working, solve problems more effectively, and create lasting value for customers when they are willing to keep learning.

This mindset defines Andik Santoso, an OCS Indonesia Technician at one of the education facilities we manage. Although he did not pursue higher education in engineering, Andik has consistently developed his technical expertise through practical experience, knowledge sharing with colleagues, and self-learning from online resources. He sees every challenge as an opportunity to learn something new and deliver better solutions on site.

Identifying problems with care and independence

Together with a fellow technician, Andik is responsible for maintaining the mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) systems and air conditioning throughout a five-storey university building. Keeping these critical systems running reliably helps create a safe and comfortable environment for students, lecturers and staff every day.

While preventive maintenance keeps the facilities operating smoothly, unexpected issues can still arise. One day, severe weather caused construction debris to strike a solar panel, shattering its glass surface. The damaged panel was considered unusable and due for replacement, yet Andik took a closer look to explore alternative solutions.

He checked each electrical component and found that most of the panel was still functioning properly. Rather than discarding the entire unit, he repurposed it to charge batteries for operational equipment, including service vehicles used across the site. His initiative successfully extended the life of the asset while improving operational efficiency.

“The repair did not require any additional cost because we already had the necessary equipment. It also helped the team work more efficiently because we no longer needed to charge batteries outside the site, which previously took extra time and money.”

On another occasion, Andik repaired a broken emergency light rather than waiting for a replacement unit. He fixed the damaged parts himself after identifying the root cause and saved millions of rupiah in replacement costs while ensuring the emergency lighting stayed fully operational during power outages. This meant there was no interruption in lighting while the system switched to generator backup.

Turning curiosity into value

Whenever Andik comes across broken equipment, his initial reaction is not to replace it. He focuses on understanding the problem and finding the best way to restore its function.

This approach comes from his passion for continuous learning. He regularly exchanges knowledge with colleagues, explores online technical forums, and examines the technologies he uses on a daily basis.

“When I set my mind on learning something, I find a way to do it. There is a real sense of satisfaction when I master something new, and it often leads me to new ideas for improving the workplace.”

Building trust through solutions

Andik’s improvements have helped customers maintain smooth operations, maximise the value of existing assets, and avoid unnecessary costs. They also reflect genuine care for customer needs and a strong commitment to delivering the best possible outcomes.

For Andik, this is what Trust means in practice. It is built through consistency, problem-solving, and a commitment to keep improving every day. His initiative has earned him recognition through the OCS Indonesia TRUE Star Programme in the Trust category twice.

“Trust is very important. By working together, following the right procedures, and understanding our priorities, we can maintain trust while continuing to develop our capabilities for the future.”

Andik’s story shows that customer trust is built on more than technical expertise. It also grows through curiosity, a willingness to learn, and the initiatives. When these qualities are put into action, every improvement not only solves a problem but also creates lasting value for customers and reinforces OCS Indonesia’s commitment to delivering reliable facilities management services.
