Angel Hill Food Co. proudly joined the national campaign to improve school meals in the UK at LACA’s Great School Lunch event. This was held at the House of Commons, Westminster, on Tuesday 29 April 2025. Representing Angel Hill were Jennifer Brown, Catering Manager, and Rob Cass, Operations Manager. They showcased the company’s commitment to delivering healthy, high-quality meals in schools across the country.
Supporting Healthy School Meals in Challenging Times
The event’s purpose was to support LACA’s national campaign for increased funding for Free School Meals in England. The campaign advocates raising the Free School Meals allowance to £3.16 per meal to support struggling families and schools. With the ongoing cost-of-living crisis affecting families and education providers, school meals have never been more vital.
Rob and Jennifer joined leaders from across the catering and education sectors to champion this funding increase and highlight the importance of hot, healthy and nutritious school food for every child.
Their participation in the event, hosted by LACA (the Lead Association for Catering in Education), raised awareness of real-world challenges. These challenges include rising food costs, tight budgets, and the demand for higher nutritional standards.
Jennifer Brown Serves Up Excellence at Westminster
At the Great School Lunch event, Jennifer Brown served a freshly prepared lunch to Members of Parliament. As LACA’s 2024 School Chef of the Year, she was invited for her national award-winning excellence in school catering. Representing Angel Hill Food Co., she proudly showcased the quality and care behind every school meal.
MPs experienced first-hand the kind of nutritious, balanced, and appealing food children enjoy in UK schools today. Jennifer’s involvement underscored the dedication and skill behind every meal served across our education catering services.
Menu highlights:
- Mains: Souvlaki chicken, feta & broccoli quiche, sweet potato & chickpea curry.
- Sides: Greek salad, kachumber salad, savoury rice, seasonal vegetables, focaccia.
- Desserts: Chocolate & beetroot cake with hot sauce, strawberry cheesecake, fresh fruit, apple & cinnamon crumble with custard.
It was such an honour to be invited to the House of Commons to showcase the passion, innovation and commitment that goes into every school meal. Serving food to MPs alongside other talented chefs was an incredible experience and a great opportunity to highlight the real impact school food has on children’s health and wellbeing every single day.
