Supporting Communities: Cameron Kane’s Commitment to Charity

Cameron Kane joined OCS in April 2025 as a Service Desk Operator based in Aberdeen. A few months later, he stepped forward as a Foundation Champion for the OCS Foundation, helping colleagues across the business get involved in charity activities and community support.

The OCS Foundation is dedicated to creating brighter futures for children and young people facing disadvantage. Through fundraising, partnerships and community initiatives, the Foundation supports projects that focus on wellbeing, education, skills, and opportunities for those who need them most. By working with charities and local organisations, it helps provide vital support, build confidence and open doors for young people across the communities where OCS operates. At the heart of this work are passionate colleagues, such as Cameron, who champion the Foundation’s mission, raising awareness and encouraging others to get involved in making a real difference.

For Cameron, supporting charitable causes is about creating opportunities for colleagues to contribute in ways that feel meaningful and accessible. Encouraging people to take part, even in small ways, helps build a sense of connection within teams while supporting communities that need it most.

Encouraging Colleagues to Be Part of Something Bigger

In the Aberdeen office, Cameron plays an active role in raising awareness of Foundation initiatives and encouraging colleagues to get involved. Whether it is sharing information about upcoming activities, displaying posters, or starting conversations across the team, his approach focuses on making participation simple and inclusive.

He believes charity activity should feel approachable rather than overwhelming. Sometimes involvement can be as simple as organising a small event, sharing an idea with colleagues, or helping bring people together around a shared cause.

“Encourage others to get involved and share ideas. Even small actions can help build momentum. Seeing the impact that small actions can have on people means a lot.”

Bringing a New Team Together

One of Cameron’s highlights so far has been the OCS 125 Challenge. At the time, the Aberdeen team was relatively new, and the initiative created an opportunity for colleagues to come together while supporting the Foundation.

Colleagues across the office took part in activities linked to the challenge, helping raise awareness while encouraging healthier habits. The experience helped strengthen relationships across the team and created a positive energy within the office.

Seasonal activities also brought moments of fun. During the Christmas campaign, Cameron organised a light-hearted “Elf on the Shelf” activity, including wrapping a colleague’s monitor in Christmas paper on the first day!

These moments helped make charity activity visible across the office and encouraged colleagues to take part.

A Personal Commitment to Charity

Cameron’s passion for supporting charities extends beyond his role at OCS. He has been an ambassador for the Abbie’s Sparkle Foundation, a children’s charity that provides support to children with Cancer across Scotland, for several years. He has supported a number of initiatives through fundraising and event planning.

One of Cameron’s most significant fundraising challenges involved cycling 500 miles in support of dementia charities, demonstrating the level of commitment he brings to causes that support people and communities.

Through these experiences, charity work has become an important part of Cameron’s life. It has also strengthened his belief that organisations can play a meaningful role in supporting the communities around them.

The Value of Supporting Local Charities

Looking ahead, Cameron hopes to see even more opportunities to support local charities, particularly across Scotland and the Aberdeen area.

Smaller organisations often rely heavily on community support, and involvement from larger organisations can help increase visibility, funding, and volunteer engagement. For him, connecting colleagues with charities closer to home can also help people see the direct impact of their efforts.

“Smaller charities can really benefit from the backing of a large organisation like OCS.”

Building Positive Momentum

As a Foundation Champion, Cameron continues to encourage colleagues to take part in ways that work for them. Whether through fundraising activities, awareness campaigns, or team challenges, every contribution helps build positive momentum.

Supporting the OCS Foundation is ultimately about people. When colleagues work together to support good causes, the impact extends beyond fundraising, strengthening teams while helping communities thrive.

“We rely on our volunteer champions across the business to amplify and further the mission of the OCS Foundation. We are in our infancy, and the more support our colleagues can give the foundation, the more young people we can support.” Cammy has been a beacon since he joined the Champions, offering ideas, spreading the word and supporting initiatives to raise funds.

“A huge thank you goes to him and all who support him, and the Foundation in the Aberdeen office!”
