Executive Summary

OCS was appointed as principal designer and contractor to deliver a £1.3 million low‑carbon vehicle hub at The Falkirk Stadium in Falkirk, Scotland. The project created 26 dedicated EV parking bays—three of which are reserved for disabled drivers, and is part of the stadium’s wider ambition to offer an exclusively electric vehicle car park.

The Brief

Develop an EV-only car park zone at Falkirk Stadium
Install a range of rapid and fast EV charging infrastructure
Incorporate solar PV and battery storage to support sustainable charging
Ensure infrastructure design supports energy export and dynamic load management
Safely work around high-voltage overhead lines and maintain full parking capacity

The Outcome

OCS delivered the EV hub on time and defect-free, installing five 50 kW rapid chargers and eight 22 kW fast chargers powered partly by solar PV and battery storage. A Dynamic Load Management System optimises demand and energy use, with excess solar energy exported to the stadium or grid.

Working within a six-metre height limit due to overhead power lines, OCS partnered with Scottish Power and used tailored safety measures to complete the build without reducing parking capacity. The project showcases OCS’s expertise in sustainable infrastructure and has already led to a second EV hub commission on the Electric A9 corridor in Stirling.

“We have a wealth of experience across numerous industry sectors at OCS. We worked closely with Falkirk Stadium to deliver a project that will drive continued mainstream appeal for low-carbon vehicles. By facilitating this electric vehicle hub, we are hopeful that this project will inspire others to adopt this type of car park.”
