VR and AR Supporting Safer, More Effective Facilities Management

OCS uses Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) to strengthen training, operational support and day-to-day service delivery. These tools help colleagues build confidence, gain practical experience and receive real-time guidance when working on complex systems.

Three people wearing VR headsets and high-visibility vests stand in a factory, engaged in discussion. One person gestures with their hands while the others listen attentively. Industrial equipment is visible in the background.

Why the Digital Tools Were Introduced

Traditional training has limitations, especially when dealing with high-risk environments and technical systems. Immersive training gives colleagues a safer way to practise tasks, review scenarios and understand procedures before stepping on site.

VR modules help colleagues experience realistic situations related to Quality, Health, Safety and Environment (QHSE) requirements and technical tasks. The controlled environment improves understanding of protocols and supports stronger compliance.

AR smart glasses give technicians access to remote support during live jobs. Subject matter experts can view the technician’s work directly and provide step-by-step guidance. This reduces downtime, prevents repeat visits and supports more accurate first-time fixes.

How the Technology Is Used

  • VR Training Modules – Custom VR modules simulate QHSE scenarios and technical tasks, enabling colleagues to practise safely and earn digital certification once the required level is achieved.
  • AR Smart Glasses – Technicians use AR glasses to connect with off-site experts who provide live guidance during maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Blended Learning – VR sessions are combined with practical training to reinforce theoretical knowledge with real-world application. Materials are delivered in multiple languages to support diverse teams.
  • Continuous Improvement – Training programmes are reviewed regularly based on feedback, performance data and customer requirements.

The Outcome

The introduction of VR and AR has strengthened both safety and operational performance across customer sites. Improvements include:

  • Better understanding of QHSE protocols
  • Faster issue resolution through remote support
  • Stronger SLA and KPI performance
  • Higher confidence among colleagues and more consistent service delivery for customers

Supporting a Skilled and Prepared Workforce

VR and AR tools form part of OCS’s broader approach to developing capable, confident teams. The technology helps colleagues prepare for complex tasks, supports safer operations and improves the overall customer experience.
