The first few months of 2023 got off to a bumpy start across Aotearoa New Zealand with a series of natural disasters that tested the resilience and compassion of communities across Aotearoa New Zealand. Devasting floods struck the North Island, wreaking havoc across the Far North and Auckland. This was closely followed by Cyclone Gabrielle, bringing widespread destruction, loss of life and devastation to Hawkes Bay and Tairāwhiti.
We were humbled by the efforts of our colleagues in these areas who went above and beyond to help affected customers despite some being personally impacted themselves.
Our team provided support to our customers through around-the-clock clean-ups and additional colleagues were deployed from other regions to bridge staffing gaps caused by the emergencies.
As well as supporting our affected colleagues and customers, our commitment extended to our local communities we live and work in. OCS contributed cash donations to the Stuff Cyclone Relief Fund, the Red Cross and the Mayoral Relief Funds in the affected regions. Recognising the importance of practical support, OCS donated essential cleaning products and equipment (including a water blaster, wet vacuum and window cleaner donated by our supply partner Kärcher). These items were dispatched to Waiohiki Marae and Tongoio Marae in the Hawkes Bay, where they are aiding the recovery efforts.
As Aotearoa New Zealand recovers and moves forward, OCS remains committed to supporting our colleagues, customers, and communities.
