Celebrating Success: 15 OCS NZ Colleagues Graduate with Leadership Qualifications

At OCS, we believe that one way we can ensure our colleagues thrive and flourish is to provide them with access to quality learning and development. Whether that’s Excellence in Cleaning, Infection Control, Leadership or other specialist skill training, we love to see our colleagues succeed.

So, we’re delighted to share that 15 of our Aotearoa New Zealand colleagues recently graduated with leadership qualifications from Edvance Workplace Education.

Four colleagues completed an NZQA qualification in Workplace Team Leadership, 10 in a foundation programme for Skills for Emerging Leaders, and one in Skills for Leaders.

OCS Contracts Supervisor, Brittany Gibson graduated in Workplace Team Leadership and says the programme was invaluable.

“It was an opportunity to reflect, and I learnt so much. Thinking about how our body language affects the way we communicate really resonated with me and opened my eyes to think deeper about the way I lead.”

The training involved a mix of group activities and assessments over a 12-week period, with one three-hour session a week.

“I highly recommend this qualification to others in leadership positions. Initially, I wasn’t really sure what to expect, but the programme broadened my perspective and boosted my confidence in my strengths while highlighting areas for improvement.”

OCS Supervisor, Katherine Dean says the Skills for Emerging Leaders qualification she completed was exactly what she needed to succeed in her supervisor role.

“I learnt a variety of skills focused on how to speak to employees, handle difficult situations, and write emails with clarity and precision.

“My biggest learning was how to deal with difficult employees as that’s something I’ve struggled with in my role.

“When I was put in the supervisor role, I didn’t have any prior supervisory experience and lacked confidence. Now I know how to handle a myriad of different situations and feel confident in my ability to succeed in my role.”

These upskilling opportunities ensure OCS lives up to its ‘best’ pillars: delivering the best experiences, productivity, practices, resilience, and outcomes for customers, colleagues, and communities.

OCS now also offers the NZQA Managing Performance in the Workplace (Micro-credential) (Level 3) course.

As our team continues to grow and develop, we’re improving workplace productivity and ensuring OCS remains an organisation that contributes to making people and places the best they can be.
