Thank Your Cleaner Day 2024
Thank Your Cleaner Day (TYCD) was launched in Aotearoa New Zealand back in 2015 by BSCNZ, supported by Kärcher. Since that time, it’s grown to be a global initiative celebrating the valuable contribution cleaners make to our communities every day.
OCS New Zealand is right behind this initiative because we see first-hand the hard work our 3,600+ team members put in every day, often working unsociable hours servicing our customers across airports, classrooms, health clinics, local government, shopping malls and offices.
We want our team to feel valued by everyone, so we’re encouraging our customers, their customers, and the public to get behind this initiative.
Did you know that more than 40,000 New Zealanders are employed in the cleaning industry? That’s a fair amount of people that deserve our thanks, and we want them to be acknowledged for their dedication to ensuring our spaces are pristine for all.
Cleaning is one of the most critical industries in the world and Thank Your Cleaner Day is a chance for us to truly thank the many Kiwis who provide this essential service.
Ideas for TYCD
Not all of our customers will be able to afford to spend money on this initiative, so we’ve got a range of ideas to suit all budgets.
Many customers have participated in previous years – so you can build on what they’ve done previously.
- Take a few moments to stop and acknowledge your cleaner – a simple smile and ‘thank you’ could go a long way.
- Organise a shared or catered morning or afternoon tea.
- Display a big thank you on your digital welcoming screen.
- Check out our free downloadable resources for cards, banners, and more.
In previous years, businesses have organised some incredible events including:
- A party in an aeroplane hangar.
- Inviting our cleaners to enjoy breakfast with the lemurs.
- Providing digital billboard space for the day, for a TYCD ‘shout out’.

Colouring Competition
We’re running a colouring competition for children aged up to 12 years old, and the lucky winners of each age group (under 5 years, 5-8 years and 9-12 years) will each receive a $50 The Warehouse gift card. We’ll randomly draw the names of two other children from each age group to each receive a $20 gift card.
