In our busy cities and peaceful countryside, garbage pollution is a growing problem. Piles of waste block rivers and harm wildlife. Birds eat plastic, marine animals get trapped in trash, and toxic chemicals poison the soil, affecting plants and animals. Wetlands are nature’s heroes in this mess. They clean water, provide homes for many species, and absorb floodwaters to protect communities. By saving and restoring wetlands, we protect biodiversity and strengthen our planet against pollution, ensuring a healthier future for all. 🌍
That is why OCS Philippines has partnered with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to conduct a clean-up drive at The Las Piñas – Parañaque Wetland Park (LPPW), formerly known as the Las Piñas – Parañaque Critical Habitat and Ecotourism Area (LPPCHEA). Predominantly covered by mudflats, the LPPW also has brush, grass, beach, dirt, and mangrove areas. Mangroves are the most prevalent plant species (eight species in total) in the area, covering about 30 hectares. 🌿
Our team of 43 volunteers focused on cleaning up the Long Island area, which is now covered by tons of garbage. Our team may not be enough to completely clean the area, but we hope that this step we have taken will be a footprint for others to follow. 👣
Our environment is the foundation of life, but it faces serious threats from the waste we produce. By reducing waste, recycling, and making eco-friendly choices, we can make a big difference. Imagine a world where simple actions—like using reusable bags, saving water, and disposing of waste properly—bring hope. Together, we can heal our planet from pollution and create a cleaner, greener future for the next generations. 🌱 Remember, your efforts, no matter how small, can lead to great change. 💪
