Executive Summary
In 2024, OCS partnered with Young Enterprise to help prepare young people for the world of work. This collaboration supported skills development and career inspiration to students across the UK, with a focus on areas of need. Through hands-on volunteering, mentoring and programme delivery, OCS colleagues equipped the next generation with the tools they need to succeed.
The Brief
OCS colleagues contributed over 600 hours of volunteering throughout the year. They engaged with students in schools and colleges, helping them develop employability skills, understand the mindset needed for future careers and navigate the transition from education into the workplace. Volunteers shared their personal career journeys, offered practical advice and supported activities that challenged students to think critically and creatively.
Young Enterprise described OCS volunteers as an “encouraging support”, highlighting the impact of their involvement in building students’ confidence and ambition.
The Outcome
OCS volunteers supported Young Enterprise’s day programmes, helping deliver applied learning to over 1,000 students during the year. These interactive sessions introduced students to work through group tasks, role-play activities and real-life problem-solving challenges.
Volunteers brought the content to life by sharing personal stories and guiding classroom discussions. Their involvement gave students a clearer understanding of workplace expectations, career pathways and key skills required. Feedback from educators and delivery teams confirmed that students left with actionable insights and increased motivation.
OCS also supported the Company Programme, placing volunteers in schools and colleges in Ipswich and London. In this initiative, students worked in teams to set up and run their own enterprises, with OCS mentors offering ongoing guidance and support.
Volunteers were key in regional trade fairs, local events and judging panels including the Company of the Year Awards and Pitch to the Panel competitions. By offering impartial feedback and celebrating students’ creativity, they helped shape tomorrow’s ideas and potential businesses.
