Executive Summary

Anglian Water manages over 80 sites, each equipped with a diverse range of mechanical and electrical assets, all with different lifespans and maintenance requirements. The customer required accurate, consistent asset data to enhance long-term planning, monitor ageing infrastructure, and boost resilience across the estate.

The project team implemented a structured asset data programme that established a single digital asset register, enhanced visibility of asset condition and importance, and facilitated a shift towards proactive, risk-based maintenance.

  • 28500 Assets

    surveyed, recorded and quality checked

  • 35% Reduction

    in planned maintenance hours

  • 26% Assets

    identified as critical, enabling prioritisation

  • 80+ Locations

    covered across the programme

The Brief

The customer required a clear, consistent understanding of asset condition and performance to support safer, more resilient, and more efficient operations across the estate.

Improve alignment between maintenance activity and asset risk.
Reduce operational downtime and strengthen resilience by moving towards a proactive, risk-based maintenance approach.
Maintain compliance with water-sector regulations through assured, up-to-date asset information.

The Outcome

The single digital asset register now offers clear and reliable information for all surveyed assets, enabling joint planning and improved prioritisation with Anglian Water’s operational teams.

The proactive maintenance model has cut planned maintenance hours by 35%, freeing resources for other operational needs. Identifying 26% of assets as critical allows maintenance and investment to be targeted where they will have the greatest impact on business risk and continuity.

The programme is currently active across four sites, supporting long-term budget certainty, capital planning, and compliance. Ongoing data management ensures the register stays accurate, helping create safer, more resilient, and more efficient environments across the estate.
