Yahya Nisar Dasr Named BSIA Apprentice of the Year

We’re proud to share that Yahya Nisar Dasr has been named BSIA Apprentice of the Year by the British Security Industry Association (BSIA). It’s a recognition that reflects technical skill, calm leadership and a consistent approach to delivering quality on the ground.

Yahya joined OCS in 2022 as part of the team supporting the Commonwealth Games. From the beginning, Yahya demonstrated professionalism, good judgement and strong communication—qualities that made a lasting impression. Following the Games, Yahya moved into a permanent role at Snow Hill, where a choice was offered across three buildings. Yahya chose Snow Hill Two, taking on the role of Security Supervisor.

Over time, Yahya has become known as a trusted lead presence across the site. Someone who brings teams together, maintains high standards, and supports customers with assurance and clarity.

In spring 2025, Yahya completed a Level 3 Facilities Management apprenticeship with Distinction—a result that speaks to the commitment shown throughout. This BSIA award now marks a significant milestone in that journey.

Yahya said:

“I’ve appreciated the support from my team and managers throughout the apprenticeship. It gave me the structure to grow and the confidence to take on more responsibility. I’m looking forward to continuing my development and seeing where it takes me.”

Three people are standing outside, smiling at the camera. The person in the center holds a trophy, and all are dressed in business attire. There are modern buildings and greenery in the background.

Kalwant Kaur, Soft Services Manager at Snow Hill, said: “Yahya has grown into a trusted leader. Nothing is too much trouble. The way Yahya supports the team, communicates and stays calm under pressure is what sets this leadership apart.”

Bruce McDonnell, Managing Director, Private Sector Facilities Management, added: “This recognition belongs to Yahya. He made it happen, and we couldn’t be happier. It also reflects the kind of culture we’re building—one where learning and development are part of everyday life, and there’s no limit to how far our colleagues can go.”

OCS continues to invest in apprenticeships and structured development as part of a long-term strategy to build talent and create opportunities across its operations. Yahya’s journey stands as a clear example of how that approach translates into day-to-day impact for customers and teams.

We’d also like to recognise the support provided by Mercury Training, and in particular Jane Grieves, whose guidance was instrumental in helping Yahya complete the final stages of the programme.

There’s more good news still to come. Yahya’s manager, Kalwant Kaur (Kally), has also been shortlisted for two national awards—Security Woman of the Year and FM Workplace Leader. We look forward to sharing that story shortly.

Congratulations again to Yahya on this fantastic and well-earned achievement.
