FM Indonesia Forum 2026 convened leaders from government, business and the facilities management (FM) sector to advance capability, governance and operational standards across Southeast Asia’s built environment. Held at Shangri‑La Jakarta, the Forum brought together policy makers, workplace strategists, asset owners, service providers and technology partners to address the next wave of FM requirements across the region.
Under the theme “The Next Wave of Facility Management in Indonesia: Elevating Workplaces, Embracing AI, ESG, and Inclusivity,” discussions focused on what strong FM looks like in practice; how leadership decisions translate into consistent on‑site delivery, including service quality, asset reliability, workplace experience and long‑term sustainability outcomes.
A Significant Step in ASEAN’s FM Professionalisation
This year’s Forum marked the formal introduction of the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) to Indonesia and the first IFMA‑supported FM event in the country. Established under a Memorandum of Understanding between IFMA Global and OCS Indonesia, the Forum signals a broader regional movement toward strengthening FM capability, training and international alignment.
Knowledge partners such as CastleAsia, AmCham Indonesia and BritCham Indonesia contributed to cross‑sector dialogue around the operational, environmental and workforce challenges common across ASEAN.
Key Themes Shaping the Region’s FM Landscape
Participants explored four operational themes that increasingly influence FM expectations across Southeast Asia, and hold relevance for the UAE’s advanced and fast‑evolving built environment:
- Digitalisation and Responsible AI
Data, monitoring tools and AI‑assisted insights improve decision‑making, visibility and reliability across complex portfolios.
- ESG and Decarbonisation Through Operations
Daily FM activities influence carbon reduction, energy efficiency, water management, waste control and transparent ESG reporting.
- Inclusive Workplace Design and Wellbeing
Workplaces can be designed and operated to support comfort, accessibility, safety and user experience.
- Professional Standards and Capability Building
Global standards and strong governance frameworks strengthen FM delivery and workforce capability.
Relevance for the UAE
The UAE’s built environment shares many of the same operating dynamics as other advanced FM markets: multi‑asset portfolios, high‑specification environments, growing ESG expectations, and rising demand for predictable, service‑led workplace experience.
Insights from FM Indonesia Forum 2026 reinforce the UAE’s own direction of travel, towards future‑ready facilities management grounded in stronger governance, data‑driven decision‑making, responsible technology use and skilled operational teams.
The UAE, with its pace of development and national sustainability targets, stands to benefit from shared regional momentum toward more structured and transparent FM delivery.
Why the UAE Is Well‑Positioned to Lead
The country already manages some of the most complex operational environments in the region, including:
- large‑scale commercial and mixed‑use developments
- world‑class airports and transport hubs
- energy‑intensive hospitality and tourism facilities
- expanding industrial, logistics and free‑zone clusters
- mission‑critical government and infrastructure assets
These environments demand disciplined FM practices, precise operational governance and advanced use of technology for monitoring, prediction and control.
As expectations rise, driven by national ESG commitments, global investor standards and the need for resilient operations in a hot climate, the UAE is well‑positioned to lead the next wave of professionalised, technology‑enabled FM in the region.
“Facilities management is where strategy meets delivery. When workplaces are operated with discipline and good governance, organisations see stronger asset performance, safer environments, and more consistent experiences for the people who use them. At its best, FM helps create workplaces that support human wellbeing, strengthen surrounding communities, and operate responsibly within their environmental context. The Forum is a practical step toward strengthening the FM ecosystem in Indonesia.”
Yohanes Jeffry Johary
President and Managing Director, OCS Indonesia
“Facility management is not an informal practice or a regional concept. It’s a globally recognized profession supported by international standards. We are pleased to join the business community in Indonesia in helping to drive national priorities to drive transformative change.”
Michael V. Geary, CAE
President and CEO IFMA
“Indonesia is IFMA’s next and defining chapter in ASEAN. As the country builds its new capital, expands modern infrastructure and develops a fast-growing FM workforce, Indonesia is creating powerful momentum for higher standards, greater professionalism and the adoption of smarter, technology-enabled FM practices.”
