Executive Summary
Better water management begins with understanding where, how and why water is used across a building.
Through its Water Stewardship and Conservation Programme, OCS is equipping Contract Managers with the knowledge to map consumption, identify inefficiencies and develop targeted improvement plans. Working with 20FIFTY Partners, the programme turns site-level analysis into practical water reduction initiatives, supporting more informed resource management across our customer sites – turning insight into action.

The Challenge
Water plays an important role in the day-to-day operation of buildings and facilities, from cleaning and catering to washrooms, landscaping and building systems.
Understanding how much water is consumed, where it is used and how effectively it is managed can help customers identify opportunities to reduce consumption and improve environmental performance.
OCS recognised an opportunity to strengthen the knowledge of Contract Managers, giving them the skills to assess water use and make more informed recommendations across customer sites.
The Solution
OCS partnered with 20FIFTY Partners to deliver a 12-week Certified Water Stewardship programme, supported by Sustainable Enterprise Skillnet and Uisce Éireann.
Participants developed detailed Water Maps, tracing consumption from the point of supply through operational processes to discharge.
These assessments provided a clearer understanding of how water moves through each site, where consumption occurs and which areas could benefit from improved monitoring.
Every participant also completed a Current State Analysis, benchmarking existing practices, establishing performance indicators and developing practical improvement plans.
The training was applied directly to operational delivery, with each Contract Manager implementing a water reduction initiative on their own contract.
Following the initial programme in Ireland, the approach was extended to customer sites in the UK.
Best Outcomes
Better intelligence on water consumption helps customers identify opportunities to reduce operating costs and progress towards environmental targets. By turning site-level knowledge into practical action, the programme supports more efficient resource use and stronger sustainability credentials.
