For more than 40 years, The Salvation Army’s Carols in the Domain has brought Australians together to celebrate Christmas and support people in need. For many of those years, OCS Australia has been part of the effort, helping make this much-loved community event possible.
Each December, tens of thousands gather in Sydney’s Domain – and millions watch from home – for an evening of music, light, and seasonal spirit. But behind the carols and candles lies a bigger purpose. Funds raised through the event support The Salvation Army’s homelessness and community programmes, providing food, shelter, and vital services to people who need them most.
A key part of the event is the Candle Bag programme. Every year, thousands of Candle Bags are sold for $25 each, filled with small festive treats. All proceeds go directly to The Salvation Army to support families in need at Christmas. Collectively, the initiative has raised millions of dollars over the years, helping the Salvos continue their mission of ‘Giving Australians A Joyous Christmas’, targeting those doing it tough in our communities.
Ahead of the 43rd Carols in the Domain, to be held on Saturday, 20 December 2025, Sandeep Chhikara, HR Manager – Australia, joined other volunteers from across Sydney to help prepare for the night – packing 1,360 Candle Bags ready for the event.
“It was good to roll up our sleeves and do something useful,” says Sandeep. “You could feel everyone was there for the same reason – to help others. It’s something I look forward to every year!”
Supporting The Salvation Army’s Christmas initiatives is one way our people put their values into action. Whether caring for customers or lending a hand in the community, our colleagues share the same goal – making people and places the best they can be.
