Enabling Employment Opportunities

In an effort to foster inclusivity and empower individuals from diverse backgrounds, OCS New Zealand works with various organisations in Aotearoa New Zealand to create meaningful employment opportunities for people who often face barriers in the job market.

Workbridge: Bridging the Gap

Workbridge is a leading organisation dedicated to supporting people with disabilities. Together, OCS and Workbridge placed 44 people (with a range of disabilities) into employment across the country.

Empowering Individuals on Supported Living Payment

In addition, working closely with the Ministry of Social Development (MSD), OCS offered employment to individuals receiving a Supported Living Payment (SLP) through MSD’s Sustainable Employment Trial.

The Sustainable Employment Trial supports those on a SLP (who either have or care for someone with a significant health condition, injury or disability), to transition into employment or increase their hours of work. It also assesses the suitability of specific job roles for these individuals. By participating in the trial, candidates gain valuable experience and explore their potential in a supportive environment.

Jessica Kirwan’s Success Story

Through the MSD scheme, Jessica Kirwan, who has hearing loss, signed up for a six-month employment trial with OCS. Jessica was delighted with the trial and said it “increased my confidence and [gave me] a sense of pride as a cleaner”.

One inspiring success story is that of Jessica Kirwan, who experiences hearing loss. Jessica eagerly enrolled in a six-month employment trial as a cleaner with OCS through the MSD scheme.

Reflecting on her experience, Jessica shared that the trial, “increased my confidence, and [gave me] a sense of pride as a cleaner.” Her journey exemplifies the positive impact of these employment trials, proving that they can transform lives and open doors to fulfilling careers.

We’re thrilled to have Jessica join our diverse workforce, and we’re looking forward to working with MSD further to help support more people like Jessica to kickstart their careers and make a meaningful difference out in our communities.

In the words of OCS New Zealand HR Manager, Kristina Power, “Our partnerships with Workbridge and MSD exemplify our TRUE values of respect and unity. We believe that every person, regardless of their background, deserves an opportunity to thrive in the workplace.”
