The People Behind the Performance: Building Skilled FM Teams in Malaysia

Malaysia is becoming one of Southeast Asia’s leading data centre hubs. Behind that growth is a need for facilities management teams with the skill, discipline and confidence to keep complex environments running safely and efficiently.

Every day, OCS colleagues across Malaysia meet that challenge. Guided by the TRUE Values Trust, Respect, Unity and Empowerment, they bring care, professionalism and technical skill to essential services across the country.

A man stands at the head of a conference table, speaking to five seated colleagues in an office. Laptops, notebooks, and pens are on the table as they have a discussion. The office is modern with glass panel walls.

Building Capability Through Certified Training

For customers, confidence comes from knowing that the people who look after their facilities are trained to the highest standards. Certified programmes, such as the Certified Data Centre Professional (CDCP), accredited by EPI, provide colleagues with a deep understanding of the systems that keep data centres operating – from power and cooling to security, cabling, safety, and efficiency.

The Certified Data Centre Facilities Operations Manager (CDFOM) programme builds on that foundation for operational leaders.

Based on the Data Centre Operations Standard (DCOS), it translates global best practices into practical skills that support safe and consistent delivery across every shift and site.

“Training gives people confidence in what they do and in the service they deliver. When colleagues feel supported, they bring their best every day, and that’s what customers value most.”

Combining Global Best Practice With Local Expertise

Across OCS, more than 130,000 colleagues deliver essential services every day across Asia Pacific, the Middle East, the United Kingdom and Ireland. From hard services and engineering to cleaning, security, and guest experience, continuous learning ensures that best practices are applied across every service line, whether single, bundled, or Total Facilities Management solutions.

Since beginning operations in Malaysia in 1985, now, more than 2,000 colleagues support customers across various sectors, including aviation, healthcare, education, workplace, distribution and logistics, retail, and the fast-growing digital infrastructure and data centre sectors. The facilities management market in this region is one of the most advanced in Southeast Asia, with a growing demand for skilled professionals and integrated service delivery.

Colleagues take great pride in their work. Their willingness to continue learning, share knowledge, and seek better ways of doing things drives consistent quality and stronger outcomes for customers. Combining global best practices with local expertise strengthens self-delivery and keeps accountability close to where the work is done.

Training supports that approach. Colleagues follow shared standards, work safely and take pride in doing things correctly. That consistency gives customers confidence that their sites and systems are supported by people who care.

A Culture That Drives Quality

People define performance. Training builds knowledge, and culture builds purpose. Through trust, respect, unity and empowerment, colleagues across Malaysia continue to grow together, supporting one another, improving every day and helping customers achieve their goals.
