"PCS has embodied what it means to work in partnership by taking the Trust values on as its own and aligning them with PCS values."

The customer

Greenham Trust supports local charities and organisations for the benefit of people in West Berkshire and North Hampshire, and since its inception in 1997, has worked with more than 5000 local good causes, distributing over £71m in funding.

The Trust owns and manages Greenham Business Park, a 150-acre business park just south of Newbury within West Berkshire.

Stats:

• Carbon emissions decreased by 0.51 tCO2e p/a through EV use

• 75kg of paper p/a saved

• 7.84 tCO2e of carbon emissions saved through local recruitment and promotion of sustainable transport

The background

PCS has worked with Greenham Trust for over a decade, providing security services at Greenham Business Park.

Our team of dedicated security colleagues ensures the safety and well-being of tenants, patrols the premises, monitors CCTV systems, and offers support to lone workers.

The challenge

Across the organisation, Greenham Trust wanted to reduce its carbon footprint and become more environmentally friendly.

A key component of this initiative centred around reducing carbon emissions associated with Greenham Business Park – and, in April 2022, PCS was tasked with reducing carbon emissions related to security operations.

The solution

To reduce carbon emissions associated with providing security services, PCS switched to electric vehicles and reduced speed on site. We also transitioned to a paperless office and focused on hiring local front-line security colleagues.

The outcome

In the 12 months to March 2023, year-on-year carbon emissions had decreased by 0.51 tCO2e per annum, thanks to the introduction of an electric vehicle that uses energy from a 100% renewable source, while 75kg of paper had been saved by transitioning to a digital office.

Meanwhile, the additional usage of laptops, tablets, and mobile devices saw a slight increase of 0.13 tCO2e, greatly outweighed by the CO2 savings and reduced paper usage.

By recruiting local employees and promoting sustainable transport options, carbon emissions were reduced by 7.84 tCO2e in carbon emissions.

Our work with Greenham Trust demonstrates the significant impact small changes can have. From electric vehicles to transforming our office practices, we have achieved strong reductions in CO2 emissions, and we look forward to working with Greenham Trust on further initiatives to make an even greater impact.
