A different approach to hiring in Kalgoorlie

In Kalgoorlie (Western Australia), where competition for labour is high and turnover can be a challenge, OCS Australia has taken a different approach to building its workforce.

Working with the Waalitj Foundation, a local Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation, the team has focused on improving access to employment for First Nations jobseekers. Waalitj provides structured support before and after placement, including help with transport, site readiness and ongoing mentoring.

Through this partnership, four new colleagues joined OCS during the year, supported through a more structured onboarding process designed to reduce barriers to entry.

The approach has also strengthened alignment with the City of Kalgoorlie Boulder, which supports initiatives that create local employment opportunities.

This is one response to a challenging labour market, focused on widening access and building a more sustainable workforce over time.
